A love of symmetry, semi abstract shapes and the strong colours of autumn and winter run through much of my work. Favourite subjects are landscapes and historic transport. The beauty of the English Lake District, Howgill Fells, Scottish Highlands and Yorkshire Dales have a special appeal; when abroad – Italy. Images are not usually pre-planned – just spontaneous.
I still use traditional transparency film to date and do not use filters or digitalization myself.
I was invited/selected to exhibit in Tuscany (Italy); Portland (Oregon, USA); RHS Tatton (Cheshire) and held my own exhibitions at Towneley Hall, Lancashire and The Theatre by the Lake, Keswick, Cumbria. Awards or acceptances in a number of exhibitions run by the Royal Photographic Society, and similar distinguished bodies, have also been attained.
BBC TV and radio described my work as “fantastic” and “spectacular” respectively. Among publications to have featured my work are the respected and historic “Amateur Photographer”; “Lancashire Life” and “Craft & Design” (formerly “The Craftsman”) magazines.
Major UK organisations such as British Aerospace, United Utilities, and distinguished hotels and restaurants purchased my work. Numerous commissions have been undertaken (including a herd of Jersey cows!), and work sold in many galleries. I ran my own “ABC Gallery” (arts, books and crafts) at WWT Martin Mere, Lancashire for many years before a partial relocation to nearby Homestead Farm’s award winning retail food premises, Holmeswood, and the Gallery at the Wharf, Burscough with the Art & Craft Guild of Lancashire (ACGL) – both Lancashire based.
I was honoured with the distinction of the Licentiateship of the Royal Photographic Society (LRPS) and am a member of the RPS as well as the nationally renowned ACGL.
